I love the Keepers of Xereill! I love that each book follows mainly one couple, but we have an overall story arc that continues to grow with each book. The characters are unique and have amazing depth and chemistry. The whole world is a creation of genius. The overall story line keeps you guessing and wondering what's going to happen next. Just when I think I know where the story is going, boom! another curve ball! The series is full of passion, family, friendships, connection, mystery, suspense, and love! I can't wait to see where Alix takes the stories within this world!

Especially good price if you want to catch up with the series and if you only read one or two of the books when they sold separately.Love this world. I read them as they came out and I must admit, I would have preferred to have read them one after the other…the characters reappear so you can feel more IN the story, if you know what I mean. The stories are intertwined but each will end with a very satisfying HEA for that particular couple. All captivating, fast-paced, well-written PNR where there are the haves and the have-nots, some with special powers and others envious of them. Just writing this reminds me how good this series was. If you like heated paranormal romance with intrigue, read these books. You will not be disappointed.I volunteered to review all of the above ARC’s when published.

From the queen of Paris-based, snarky RomComs comes a series of delightful SciFi novels and novellas that are, at heart, also romances. I read each of these as it came out and am happy to share a few thoughts about each story--but the whole is, not unexpectedly, greater than the sum of its parts, especially as this is an ongoing saga.***The Cyborg's Lady (Keepers of Xereill, #0.5) This prequel novella makes a delightful introduction to the series, leaving us with myriad possibilities to look forward to but no loose ends. We learn about several of the variations in "humanity" as represented in this look forward to terraformed worlds and hyperfast space travel and are treated to a short love story. A satisfying teaser!***The Traitor's Bride (Keepers of Xereill, #1) This was actually published before the prequel and my introduction to the series. We have multiple planets, varying levels of technical and technological sophistication, civilizations ranging from medieval to modern+, power mad evil-doers, national and interplanetary politics, bionics, and "magic" all wrapped up in one (full-length) novel which concludes its action but ends in a bit of a cliff-hanger.***The Commander's Captive (Keepers of Xereill, #2) Following a nuclear disaster on their planet, the surviving population had agreed to eschew all but Level One technology --not even cellphones! Thus the majority of the population lives a rather medieval life and the political power struggles are crude, heavy handed and brutal, as is life for the havenots; and it's not really so sweet for the haves. (Think eastern Europe just post WWII, with Stalin threatening from outside as powerplays go on internally.) Meanwhile this planet is one of many in the League of Realms (will it prove to be as underpowered/-funded as the League of Nations or more closely resemble the United Nations?). All this sounds rather oppressive and, although the politics are, the story is not. The drama moves along swiftly and believably with glimpses of the sly humor and romances of equals in temperament, if not in station, for which the author is known. The surprise is the complex and multi-textured universe created.***The Dragon's Woman (Keepers of Xereill, #3) Shifting Hurts! In this exciting and imaginative series we are introduced to varieties of normal and paranormal species, including those bionically implanted, in a sprawling Sci-Fi realm which has long past absorbed humanity. The political scheming on Hente continues to escalate and the resistance gains numbers and strength. (The action is sufficiently self-contained to serve as a standalone tale but works much better in context with the previous stories, each of which is a romance beset by the turbulence of the times.) Borrowing heavily--but not directly--from existing unrest on our "blue marble," we are given the opportunity to watch as dysfunctional governments flail from one incompetency to the next while the League of Realms endeavors to hold together a tenuous peace. And on a more personal level, Geru must learn to become one with his inner dragon as he forms a mating bond.

I read each of these stories as they were released individually and, IMO, they range in rating from 4 stars to 4.5 stars. I read almost every Alix Nichols that is released. Though I prefer her France-set romances, she's built an interesting world here, with evil autocrats, brave and self-sacrificing heroes and strong women. The villains are really teacherous and into violence and disregard for the general population. Cyborg warriors and dragon shifters add to the fight between good and evil. Here are my more detailed reviews on each volume in the set.The Cyborg's Lady (4 stars)🚀Keiron's forced vacation introduces a pivotal woman and raises hopes for romance💕🔥May 4, 2018👍Brief, well-written prequel introducing 🌌 interplanetary cyborg warrior and enforcer Keiron, who plays a significant role as the next volumes in this serial unfold (when I read this I had already read the first two installments in the main series). Nice to know he has his own romantic backstory that will surely resurface at some point.Other than Keiron's appearance, the main point I got from this prequel was the background of how the planets were settled by Ra godlike aliens that brought humans into the mix and had a connection with dragons. This background may prove useful down the line. Like the later installments, action adventure, heat and romance populated by a variety of beings with individual super powers (some natural, some manufactured) feature for a classic sci-fi romantic adventure. The Traitor's Bride (4 stars)Can a lowly laundress save a hero's life and capture his heart?!😱March 26, 2018Very suspenseful romance with Areg Sebi, a persecuted and tortured war hero who is too popular and out spoken for his own good, and Etana, the innocent young servant girl who tries to save him. The MCs had chemistry and I liked the surprises that kept cropping up as the hero went from one horrible situation to the next. Etana shows surprising grit despite her sheltered background. Their growing closeness and tender moments provided a great contrast to the action-packed battle scenes. The author has provided a sizeable cast of secondary characters, including a sadistic police chief, his power-hungry boss and their minions, Etana's supportive brother and employers, priestesses and regular folk inclined to help the hero, and a space commando and his crew looking for unofficial ways to stage a timely rescue. I have read a number of Alix Nichol's contemporary France-based romances and have always greatly enjoyed them. This sci fi romance is very different because she has had to build a whole new world for the characters and the plot is more action adventure than pure romance. I still enjoyed it and, as always with her stories, it's well-written.The story is definitely a serialized tale and ends on a major cliffhanger so be prepared to read a sequel to learn how things end for Areg Sebi and Etana. The Commander's Captive (4.5 stars)💕🔥🚀A great adventure continues!😱April 19, 2018👍4.5 stars:-) I think I liked this second book in Alix Nichols' new🚀 sci-fi💗 romance series even better than the first. That may be because I am now more familiar with the characters and world the author built in the first story. The MCs from the first story, which ended in a cliffhanger in regards to their relationship, are back and working their way toward a reunion, but the MCs here are Jancel, beleaguered military commander, and Nyssa, his prisoner under house arrest and the beloved sister of Areg, the hero from the first book who everyone assumes Jancel betrayed.Jancel and Nyssa can't resist each other, despite Nyssa's belief that her long unrequited affection for Jancel undermines her loyalty to her brother's memory. This internal conflict provides for great tension. But there is also great passion and heat despite Nyssa's intentions to merely taunt Jancel as payback for her brother's capture and torture.Simultaneously, we get a great political intrigue story, with the evil police commander, the power-obsessed governor, and a new cyborg whose close work for the governor seems suspect. I found the warped workings of this trio just as enjoyable (though admittedly creepy) as the romance!IIn sum, a great example of the sci-fi romance genre and thoroughly enjoyable. Though the two principal romances have HFN endings, there are plenty more characters to highlight in subsequent stories, like Etana's brother and Jancel's trusted allies. And will the evil Ultek and the governor get their just desserts? Can't wait to see what Nichols has in store as the series continues.:-)The Dragon's Woman (4 stars)Geru, who are you really and will your secret destroy you and those you love?July 31, 2018Lots of action, cruel scientists, evil politicians, all aimed at Geru Gokk, oldest son in a noble family who has no idea he is a "rich blood" with marvelous special powers that others seek to control. Marye, his childhood friend with a long-time crush, is sucked into the drama as Geru"s secret is revealed to her and her growing romantic connection with Geru offers a supplemental way for the scientists to force his compliance. There's steam, too, but it's largely a space adventure with winged cyborgs, magical and manufactured beasts, and huge plans for world domination with freedom fighters holding out hope for a better future. Exciting stuff, but I believe I liked the earlier stories in this series a bit more.I am not a fan of multiple epilogues and this story had two, one directly connected to the story (fine) and one that was not. I did not see how the second epilogue fit in this novella as over 90 percent of it continued the previous book with characters not covered in Geru and Marye's story. It was an obvious attempt to continue the larger series but, in my opinion, it was misplaced and left the book ending on a confusing note.Note that Samurai's Lover, the latest volume and what I thought was the weakest story in the series, is not included.I read complimentary advance copies of the books in this set; this is my voluntary and honest review.
