This book has everything you need in a simple and easy to read guide -which has made looking after myself and my baby easy! The only thing better is if you get some physical time with Mary! And she has workshops! So keep your eye out!
I love this book because it's a collection of health advice/tips and exercises I know will be safe for the various stages pregnancy. That's a major concern of mine; being healthy and staying fit during and after. I also have concerns about what types of exercise are safe and this fully outlines the exercises with photos as examples as well as provides sample exercise schedules according to where you're at in pregnancy. It was very easy to read and follow with very little fluff and banter which I appreciated. It did have a short section of the author's personal story, sections of general pregnancy advice like not smoking/drinking of course, but also being of a healthy BMI and they even included a handy little table. So I found it all very straight forward and packed with science and knowledge. The exercises themselves have great variety so if something doesn't work for my body I can try something else and there were a lot of things I never would have thought of on my own. I thought the exercises were very creative and considered every part of the body, even mysofacial release.
This seems to be a book for people who don't work out often, yet it is very technical. It discusses getting into shape before you conceive, working out while pregnant, and then working out while postpartum. The author gives a lot of stretches for all stages and muscle release in which you use a foam roller. Following that section are actual exercises to do at a gym. Not helpful if you do not have a gym membership. Also, it is basically all strength training, she doesn't get much into cardio. The most helpful are the exercises that strengthen your pelvis/hip area. There are a ton of charts with detailed explanations in the back for which exercises you should do and when (pre, during, post partum). The charts are so full of letters and numbers, it makes your eyes cross. I did not find the book helpful and really did not alter my normal workout routine.
When you get pregnant you usually lose the urge exercise and keep fit because you have no energy, especially if you already have one little one already. This book offers a solution to this problem. It offers exercises that are relaxing and non stressful to your body while keeping you fit. You still have to summon the willpower to do the exercises. Just reading the book isn't going to help you. You still have to be disciplined in your exercise regimen. This will make a great christmas present!
This book is definitely for women who are not well versed in fitness. If you are somebody who hits the gym regularly and you have in-depth knowledge of working out skip this book. There are lots of fitness plans in the back and exercises are broken down and in pictures so you can feel confident in using proper form. I do really like how this book is full of facts, and is very straightforward. Overall a well written, organized book with a lot of knowledge-for beginners.
I've read a lot of pregnancy books as this is my third pregnancy, but I loved this one geared towards being fit, before, after, and during pregnancy. I liked that the author broke down what you can do for each trimester, with helpful exercise charts to refer to for the exercise, sets, reps, rest, etc. The pictures and directions as well as modifications and cautions are clearly defined. The stretches section is also wonderful as stretching is often overlooked. I'm a fan and plan to use this book now (in my second trimester) into my third and then postpartum.

Only the first 50 or so pages are text to read and the remaining 400 some pages include workout routines, fitness programs for before and after you give birth, weight training programs, as well photos and diagrams of the moves. I'm a creature of habit, but I do understand that the body changes. This book has encouraged me so much and I've just started it this week. I love that it includes so much detail-- down to the number of reps you should do in the gym and the workout moves/sets to include in each session. As one who is about to be a first time parent after overcoming several health issues and taking control of my physical fitness, this has made me feel so encouraged about my ability to do so while also planning to conceive and give birth.
